Abstract

The objective of this clinical case was to assess the use of Invisalign® system in the treatment of severe gingival recession and bone dehiscence by using torque, translation and intrusion movements in a young woman. Cone beam computed tomography was used to assess bone parameters and to control the treatment. The root of the right lower central incisor, which was buccally positioned and had bone dehiscence of 9.4 mm, was moved towards the centre of the alveolar process by using Invisalign® system and SmartForce® features. The patient was monitored by a periodontist throughout the orthodontic treatment. Gingival recession improved and bone dehiscence was reduced from 9.40 mm to 3.14 mm. The movement of the root into the alveolus promoted bone neoformation and improvement in gingival recession. Orthodontic treatment associated with periodontal control contributed to the improvement of gingival recession and decrease of alveolar defect.
