Late adolescent skeletal Class III correction with Alt-RAMEC protocol and skeletal anchorage

Abstract

In this case report, in which skeletal anchorage supported maxillary protraction was performed with the Alt-RAMEC (Alternate Rapid Maxillary Expansion and Constriction) protocol, the mean treatment duration of a 16-year-old female patient who was in the late growthdevelopment period was 14 months. Mini-plates were applied to the patient's aperture priformis area to apply force from the protraction appliance. After 9 weeks of Alt-RAMEC protocol, unilateral 500 g protraction force was applied from miniplates to Petit-type face mask. A significant improvement was found in the soft tissue profile in measurements made both cephalometrically and in 3D photographs. Then, the second phase of fixed orthodontic treatment was started and the treatment was completed with the retention phase. After treatment, occlusion, smile aesthetics and soft tissue profile improved significantly in response to orthopedic and orthodontic treatment.
